Metallus is a world leader in clean, air-melted steels and maintains a legacy of providing material solutions that support the U.S. Department of Defense. Our broad capabilities allow us to convert specialty alloys, including products that we do not melt, from a solid bar to a hollow tube for munitions. Under a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with the U.S. Air Force Research Lab, we are proud to have produced both the world’s first developmental and production heats of AF9628 (USAF Patented US201036932A1), which features our Ultrapremium^TM technology.

With our program management capabilities, our customers know that they will get the exact quantity and products they need, engineered to their unique specifications. Our long-length thermal treatment lines can be customized with quench-and-temper, normalizing, anneal, and more. We certify that our products meet the most stringent quality requirements with our ultrasonic test inspection and intermediate tube finishing lines.

Applications

Artillery and Mortar Bodies

Metallus is a global supplier of long length materials which are custom engineered to exacting performance and testing standards. We currently participate in several medium- and large-caliber munitions programs such as the ubiquitous 155mm artillery round.

Bombs and Warheads

Metallus works with customers to provide essential steel which can be found in nose cones, bodies, fuse components, and structural components. We have participated in numerous programs, working closely with customers to ensure consistent performance and workability.

Missile and Rocket Motors

Metallus is a trusted partner for material solutions for a complex range of missile applications. Our long and tubular product solutions can be found in rocket motor casings, nozzles, and tail components. In addition to a broad catalog of carbon-steels melted in house, we supply a diverse range of alloy materials in tubular form.

Grades of Steel: D6A/D6AC, 15-5, 17-4, 300M, C300, Titanium
Gun Barrels

Whether ship or aircraft mounted, Metallus is found on several gatling-style machine guns used through the armed services. In addition, our proven quality and stringent testing has made us a preferred supplier of barrel steels for small, medium and large caliber guns.
