At Metallus, we are evolving with the electric vehicle industry.

Metallus currently manufactures applications for some of the most popular electric vehicles on the road today. As our customers in the automotive market have diversified their offerings from combustion engines into electric vehicles, they have trusted our expertise and our products enough to bring us along. Our reputation for quality products and our ability to customize designs, sizes, and treatments of our specialty bar quality and seamless mechanical tubing products means that if a customer is looking for something that isn’t on the shelf, we will make it for them.

Our customers set the pace for innovation.

As the electric vehicle industry evolves and our customers launch new products and programs, our team members collaborate to manage design changes. We have launched new electric vehicle programs with original equipment manufacturers, and support the full lifecycle of the development and launch of a new product – because we are seeking a sustainable future alongside our customers.

Applications

Our clean, reliably produced steel strengthens applications throughout the electric vehicle market, including those featured below.

Motor Rotor Shafts

Motor rotor shafts in electric vehicles convert electrical energy into mechanical motion by transmitting the rotational force generated by the electric motor to drive the wheels. Steel grade 5120, one of our VacTecTM vacuum-carburizing automotive steels, provides the strength customers expect for this application.

Final Drive Pinion Shafts

Responsible for vehicle propulsion, final drive pinion shafts transmit torque from the electric motor to the wheels. Steel grade 5120, one of our VacTecTM vacuum-carburizing automotive steels, provides the strength customers expect for this application.
