Industrial

Off Highway

Two large yellow mining trucks are being loaded with material by a massive excavator in an open pit mine with exposed dark rock faces.

Demanding jobs require durable steel – and we supply it.

Metallus metal is found in machines operating in some of the most demanding industries in the world, including mining, construction, and agriculture. Machinery at these sites is expected to withstand the extreme conditions present by weather, natural resources, and unyielding use – all of which require metal with high durability, versatility, and resilience. Our forged-rolled process creates a stronger, more uniform piece of steel with a sound center at geometric reduction ratios lower than historically possible in rolled-only product. And when it comes to the critical components that hold the wheels on mining trucks, bulldozers, and large tractors, strong steel is imperative for safety and progress on projects.

Why Metallus?

Quench-and-temper capabilities at facilities like our state-of-the-art Advanced Quench & Temper Facility (AQTF) allow us to manufacture and process products to our customers’ specifications.

Applications

Our clean, reliably produced steel strengthens applications throughout the off highway market, including those featured below.
A large yellow mining dump truck is shown with a massive load capacity, featuring huge wheels, driving on a rocky surface with a clear sky above.

Bearings

Our seamless mechanical tubing is found in critical cylindrical lining applications, including agriculture and construction machinery, to reduce friction and wear to moving components.

Grade of Steel: 1060

Wheel Hubs

Our large, square 15’ x 15” forging bar is used as wheel hubs, which are critical to the suspension of the world’s largest mining trucks.

Grades of Steel: 41B45M, HS220-27Ca4

Axles and Gears

We produce boron-treated steels, which are used in the axles and hard-wearing gearing components of the largest off-highway tractors and bulldozers produced in North America.

Grades of Steel: 41B30M, 15B35M
